The Rev. Michael Arase-Barham was ordained in the Diocese of California in 2008 and served in the Diocese of Hawaii as associate priest at the Parish of Saint Clement for nearly five years.  He returned to California to serve as vicar for Good Shepherd in November 2013.

Raised a United Methodist in Meridian, MS, he was confirmed at The Episcopal Church of the Mediator in Meridian between semesters as a student at Duke University's Divinity School. After receiving his MDiv from Duke,  he made his way to California and was active at Saint Michael and All Angel's in Concord, CA. In 2007, Michael completed the Certificate in Anglican Studies course at Church Divinity School of the Pacific (CDSP) and began coursework for his doctorate that fall.  During his two years in residence at CDSP, he interned at St. Giles in Moraga.

While at St. Clement's Honolulu, Michael completed the Doctor of Ministry, writing on the spirituality of pilgrimage  one of his favorite memories is making the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela!

He enjoyed the opportunities for hiking and paddling in Hawaii and also found his soul mate there, Mr. Jiro Arase-Barham, whom he married on May 21st of this year.  Jiro is a PhD student at Rutgers University in Camden, NJ, and will join Michael in a couple of years after completing his course work.  Until then, they will be a bi-coastal family.
